Last year in March, Howden became part of Chart Industries. 

Whereas Howden are known across multiple industries as a leading provider of air and gas handling equipment, Chart’s expertise lies in cryogenic cooling and the liquefaction, storage and transportation of gases.

Both companies have been evolving with the needs of their industrial customer bases with focus shifting to decarbonisation and efficient, environmentally responsible operations.

Howden’s solution portfolio has already expanded in recent years from underground ventilation systems based on our fan technology to heating and cooling of air. Our Ventsim™ software capabilities enhance this as we can offer full system consultancy with modelling to optimise designs and provide ongoing operational efficiencies through controls right up to Ventilation on Demand.

What Chart adds to this, is cost effective lower carbon energy solutions for off-grid sites. This is based on Chart’s hydrogen or LNG technology. Complete liquid storage and regasification systems are offered along with insulated tank systems from Chart Vacuum Technology® to ensure lower losses and better gas utilization.

The gas systems can be used within on-site power systems or also to support mine vehicles as Chart’s on-board fuel systems use LNG or Liquid Hydrogen.  These are available as a retrofit for existing trucks or integrated into new trucks, offering a transition to a cleaner burning fuel at lower cost than diesel.

Water treatment is also part of the expanded capabilities, with ChartWater™ bringing specialist water treatment and reuse technology for mines.  The technology provides cost-effective removal of contaminants, oxygenation, pH adjustment, oxidation and odour control within mine wastewater.  Systems can be plug and play containerised solutions to large modular treatment plants and can be offered on a Treatment as a Service (TaaS) basis, giving access to lower cost emergency or long-term treatment.
